A very different view this week!

The beautiful Isles of Scilly, a bit of a nostalgic trip as I was last here 40 years ago. It hasn't changed very much just a lot more cars. Lovely flight in an 8 seater plane thankfully not on the boat as the crossings have been a bit rough with all the high winds we're having.

It's lovely catching up with my old neighbours from Claverton Down the only problem is I thought I could go for a swim in the sea every day and have nice long walks! The wind have been so cold I'd probably have got hypothermia  coming out of the water and the other problem is all the pubs and restaurants are only 5 minutes between each one!!! The views are amazing but even just to sit and watch the weather changing it can be very different from one hour to the next.

Seriously we have had some lovely walks around the coastal paths but the highest point on the main Island St Mary's is about a tenth of the height of the Yorkshire challenge I did the weekend before we came away. I think I will have to step up the training a bit when I get back!!

Hope you're all getting your teams together for the Darts and Skittles night Friday 21st August, Belvoir Castle, Lower Bristol Road, Bath. Will be a fun night.

S

 Three Peaks Yorkshire

Well I survived, JUST. I cannot believe how cold the wind was in mid July!! but it wasn't wet apart from the very occasional brief shower!
Thankful for small mercies.

Fantastic weekend meeting some of the other mad people doing
the Trek in September.

Three peaks in 2 days not so good!!! by the end of the first day I was wondering if I was ever going to make it out on the Sunday morning as my knee gave out on the final decent. I thought I might have problems with my shoulder, back, hips, feet but hadn't expected my knee to go!! Strapped it up for Sunday and off I went, had to give up on the final
scramble to the summit, I could have probably made it to the top but would still be there!! the downward journey was very painful had to do some of it backwards!!! but I got there in my own unique style.

Stepping up the training now, had a couple of days rest and relaxation. Off to Isles of Scilly on Thursday so lots of swimming in the sea and walking around the Islands, not sure that sunbathing helps but will just have to do a bit of that as well.

Hope you're all getting your teams sorted ready for the Pub Games Night Friday 21st August, start registering your teams now.

Auction Night !0th September so put the date in your diary.

9 weeks and counting!!!!

Lovely week for many reasons, Wednesday went to Portishead to the Chiropractor so he could 'straighten' me out ready for the training in Yorkshire next weekend. 3 peak in the Dales in 2 days! Mum came too her first visit since her hip op so Tom was very gentle with her. It was lovely just to have the day to ourselves and had the obligatory visit to our favourite Brackenwood Nursery on the route so I could buy some plants for a customers' garden (any excuse).  Then went back to collect plants and have lunch after we'd been to Tom. He did say I was looking trimmer and fitter than last time I saw him and did a general 'MOT' as he calls it and crunched and popped a few bits. Came out feeling great and about 2 inches taller than when I went in!!

I Have had the list of other people going on the training weekend so scanned down to see if any of the telephone numbers were local but didn't recognise any so I was quite surprised to get an email from someone in Trowbridge (about 15 miles from me) who is doing the trip too. We met up today at Bathampton and walk up through Bathford to Browns' Folly. It was a bit grey but nice and cool, then it started to drizzle and then on the way back to Bathford it just got heavier and heavier, that's when you find out that shower proof does mean just that and NOT waterproof! Thinking it was only going to be a brief shower I didn't bother to put my waterproofs on. I also found out that my jacket was also only shower proof and the zips, unless completely covered, weren't water tight either. All good things to check before next weekend.

Starting to get quite excited now though I'm sure I will have a few wobbles in the next 9 weeks. Just watching Joanna Lumley in China and Beijing looks very scary all those tall buildings I'm sure I shall feel claustrophobic and I wish we were going to get to see the bit of the wall Joanna visited. It all looks amazing.

Hoping to confirm the new date for the Charity Auction later this week.

Pub Games Night 21st August full detail soon.

Anyone fancy a Beetle Drive? Post a comment if your interested.

Don't forget you can donate to Dorothy House via my JustGiving link in the right hand margin.
Thank you.

Sunday 5 July 2015

Charity Auction postponed until early September.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the Auction I will confirm the new date as soon as possible.

This week I have paid the final monies for the trip so there's no going back now! 10 weeks today and I will have done the first day of walking.

2 weeks today I will be back from doing the 3 peaks in the Yorkshire dales so I will know what I'm up against and how much fitter I need to be before I go.

Saturday my friend and I cycled through the 2 Tunnels that go from Oldfield Park under Foxhill and Combe Down and finished up at the Hope and Anchor at Midford and then had to cycle all the way back again, it was lovely and cool on a hot day and a lovely tranquil stop at the lake at Tucking Mill so will be going back with more time to spend enjoying the scenery.

Due to popular demand I am organising another Pub Games Night, not quite as many games this time as the logistics were a nightmare! Also the Fish and Chips bar is now open in the pub so you can get your supper! Get picking your teams and book the date for Friday 21st August. Posters and fliers will be ready soon.
